Pikesville High Internship Program

An internship is a culminating, interactive educational experience in a real-world setting with the guidance of a mentor. The experience directly relates to a student's career exploration and learning goals.

Pikesville High School student interns seek a "learn rather than earn" experience. All of our interns works 10 hours a week at the training site (your company).

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Employer/Site Mentor:

A mentor is an expert in a particular field willing to guide a student through a meaningful educational experience. The mentor's responsibilities include:

School Internship Coordinator:

The Internship Coordinator is the school's representative, responsible for all aspects of the internship experience, including:

Contacting potential site mentors
Determining appropriateness of the internship site
Collaborating with student and site mentor to develop internship learning goals
Mentoring students on site
Facilitating internship seminars
Communicating with parents, students, mentor and school personnel
Coordinating performance evaluations

Student Requirements and Responsibilities:

Readiness Preparation - resume, reference letters, wish list of expectations and all student service learning hours completed
Strict Attendance Policy
Collaborate with site mentor and internship coordinator to develop site
Complete twenty-four career specific research topics
Maintain a weekly journal
Construct a portfolio reflecting levels of learning
Collaborate on performance evaluations
