| Jean Sykes, a
wonderful person who lived in Owings Mills for many years, began a project
in her basement almost 50 years ago in an effort to provide a bit of
Christmas to needy families in and around this area. Little did she know
that she would continue this amazing effort for more than 40 years! Today,
Jean Sykes' legacy lives on in the form of the Jean Sykes Toy Program
of Northminster Church. The program accepts used toy donations
that are sorted and cleaned for re-distribution to needy children. Each
year approximately 200 local children benefit from this project.
Once the local "shoppers" have visited the project, the
remaining toys are donated to Bea Gaddy's organization in Baltimore City.
Donations come from many sources: local schools, local scouting troops,
service organizations, other churches and synagogues, and individuals as
well. We will accept donations throughout the year with a simple phone
call to the toy project at (410) 833-6042.
